Amtrak Capitol Corridor Commercial's Shooting - from the star's perspective
AUDITION: Extensive training such as a U.C. Davis Master of Fine Arts acting degree plus experience like his 'TONY Award' winning 'professional residency' with the San Francisco Mime Troupe prepares Phillip to 'be himself' for the 'Commercial's producers' and Amtrak 'client'. At the typically nondescript Boxcar Theatre 'audition' location, truthful 'performers' (who are what's needed) get the 'phone call'!
PREP: The usual early morning 'crew call' kicks off with unique parameters that include 'taping' while on a scheduled Amtrak Capitol Corridor Sacramento to San José round trip excursion. Everything must be 'in the can' before our "commute" returns to California's Capital City. Applying the 'multi skilled talent' approach that is the basis of his new 'training program', Phil E. arrives 'camera ready' to 'act' and 'dance'!
WAITING: The ability to hurry up and wait is key to successful 'electronic performance'. Communing with and learning from Amtrak staff, Phillip Eugene enjoys the beautiful trip to his San José hometown without once going on 'set'. "I could have joined the 'set' here" he notes. Our return ride is near complete when the 'star' is finally added to 'talent' who have been 'dancing' for the 'camera' all day long!
ON SET: Time is now short as our train traverses the Delta. For us to make the Sacramento return 'deadline' Walker must 'hit marks', 'moments' and 'emotions' in very few 'takes'. Amtrak staff ask their 'lead entertainer' how he can be so ready at the drop of the hat? "It's my job" the 'pro' answers.
